Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera told Parliament yesterday (5) that the Government has agreed to accept all the amendments presented by the Supreme Court regarding the Electricity Bill and the Government will not propose any other amendments. The Minister said this in reply to a question raised by Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella regarding the Electricity Bill.
The proposed new Electricity Act and amendments concluded by the Supreme Court were approved by Parliament’s Energy Sector Oversight Committee on Tuesday evening.
The Energy Minister added that the Bill will be submitted to Parliament today (6).
