This installment on paper features a few do's and dont's, plus a D.I.Y. supplement listing resources for paper purchases.
All About Your Paper (Part 3 of 3)
DO
  • Take the time to secure physical swatches of the paper you are specifying. Colors and textures on screen can be deceptive.
  • Have the proof of your project done on the actual stock that its being printed on so that there are no surprises upon delivery of the full order.
  • Ask your stationer about stock and printing recommendations. Different stocks will react differently to different printing methods.
DON'T
  • Fold heavy cover stock without scoring it first. Un-scored folds can look ragged.
  • Shy away from your stationer's recommendations about your paper selection. In the end, reputable stationers have the experience and the knowledge to provide proper guidance in this area.
  • Cut corners on your stock purchase. Select a more affordable printing method before skimping on your paper. If the look and feel of your stock is flimsy, it will mar an otherwise well designed suite.

Online Paper Shopping Resources
All About Your Paper (Part 3 of 3)These are some of my favorite online paper destinations. You can get good deals by taking advantage of frequent close out sales, and although you won't receive trade or wholesale deals (unless you are a small biz), the pricing is acceptable.
