Alexander Skarsgard is currently working with  the “Walking With The Wounded” Charity, by supporting their latest challenge to raise funds for injured service personnel in a Race to the South Pole.

According to the “Walking With The Wounded” Website “Three teams of wounded servicemen and women are embarking upon on one of the most high profile expeditions of modern times, racing across 3° to the Geographic South Pole. Wounded from the UK, the US and the Commonwealth (Australia and Canada) will embark on this gruelling challenge”.  ”Following extensive training, from cold weather training in Iceland in March, to team training through the summer, and a final session of snow preparation in October, the teams will fly to Antarctica in November. They aim to reach the South Pole around 17th December 2013″.

Prince Harry will be leading Team UK. He is also Patron of the UK based charity.

thesun.co.uk is reporting that Alex has been training with the US and Commonwealth Teams in Colorado, as they prepare for the 208 mile trek.

PRINCE Harry will fight a cold-blooded foe in a race to the South Pole — True Blood vampire Alexander Skarsgard.

The royal Army captain takes on the Swede actor in the Walking With the Wounded Allied Challenge, which sees our serviceman compete with US troops and an Australian-Canadian team.

Skarsgard, 37, stars in the award-winning series True Blood. He was training with the US and Commonwealth teams for a challenge in Colorado, US - the preparation for November’s gruelling 208-mile trek.

Skarsgard grew up skiing and served in the Swedish military in an anti-terrorism unit in the Stockholm archipelago.

Apache pilot Harry, 28, will prepare for his polar expedition in a cold chamber for two days next week at Mira Ltd in Nuneaton, Warwicks.

(Anyone who, like me, lives in the UK, will know that The Sun does enjoy attention grabbing headlines but nowhere does it report that Alex is taking part in the actual trek, for which the servicemen have been in training for months.) Pictured below is Alex during his visit to the US Team in training.

Further details of ways in which his fans can help support the challenge will no doubt follow in due course.

As a dear friend of mine was injured whilst serving in the forces overseas, I believe this is charity very much worth supporting.
