Alex Winston Loves Ghosts, Confetti, Sparklers [video]

Just a couple of weeks ago, Alex Winston (@iamalexwinston) teamed up with director Austin Peters to shoot a video for “Choice Notes” in her hometown of Detroit. Peters had previously directed her video for “Locomotive”, a track from the Sister Wife EP, which debuted about a year ago.

The resulting video is a little bit eerie, a little bit colourful, and obviously straight from a vivid imagination. Childlike DIY ghosts, sparklers, and Detroit’s colourful East-side urban art community called “The Heidelberg Project” all make an appearance, while Winston looks classy in her vintage-inspired ensemble. The animal conscious musician even took the time to let her fans know that the fur worn in the is indeed faux — so no worries there, PETA warriors. One of my favorite parts of the video is the great juxtaposition of her mysterious demeanour and the rainbow confetti that falls from above as she dances gleefully. This is usually the type of imagery I envision when listening to Winston’s music anyway, so to see it come to life is naturally fitting.

Check out the video, and remember that her full-length debut, King Con, will be released on March 6th via Island Records.
