When we were invited to review an afternoon tea at Dobbies Garden Centre Cirencester, Gloucestershire, we jumped at the chance. It would be perfect for hubby and I to get some us time, a bit of a date day and it's only 20 minutes from Cheltenham.

I've popped a video review on my YouTube channel and I'm sure you'll see just how delicious it is. A picture talks a thousand words but a video just says so much more doesn't it?

When we arrived, our reserved table was ready and the restaurant lovely and bright in the sunshine. Our food arrived quickly and after a few photos we pondered where to start. It was a hard choice as everything looked delicious, the sandwiches, scones and the beautifully prepared cakes.

I was very tempted to start scoffing cakes straight away, but started with a sandwich, scone and then tucked in. Everything was delicious. The sandwiches, moist and full of flavour. I commented to hubby that I really should make cucumber sandwiches at home as they really are yummy. Our girls also both love cucumber and so I'm sure it would even tempt B to eat a sandwich; in typical toddler style she usually eats just the filling.

The scones were delicious, we both popped the cream on followed by jam and wouldn't do it any other way! The cakes really were the icing on the cake so to speak. Each delicious and so more-ish although I definitely couldn't eat any more! We were absolutely stuffed.

The strawberry tarts, huge and so creamy. But I really do have to give a special mention to the profiteroles: they were absolutely the best profiteroles I have ever tasted. Delicious chocolate coating with just the right amount of cream inside. It just melted in my mouth.

We had an absolutely lovely time and must say I much preferred the atmosphere at Dobbies Cirencester compared to the cafe at Dobbies Gloucester (use to be Wyevale Blooms at the M5 junction 12). It was much more spacious and quieter, and the staff seemed to have much more time and the queues much much shorter, normal opposed to always very long and slow. We would definitely recommend Dobbies Cirencester for afternoon tea, and actually just for a cake and coffee, especially as there is a kids climbing frame outside along with several tables too.

Downton Abbey afternoon tea

Dobbies often run special afternoon tea events such as afternoon tea with Santa and and the Easter Bunny, during September they are celebrating Downton Abbey entering the cinema. As well as other ways to celebrate, such as baking scones and Downton inspired products (on their website), during weekends in September they are running a special Downton Abbey afternoon tea reminiscent of that the Crawley's might have indulged in such as Bakewell tarts and coconut macaroons.

Dobbies' Instagram page has featured the Downton Abbey afternoon tea but even if you miss it I'd thoroughly recommend a trip anyway.

Dobbies afternoon tea is £12.50 per person, and £6.50 for kids. Ours was free to enable us to write this. All opinions are our own!
