Much is discussed today not just about how to select and to publish news in the world of the media quintet, but also about the physical environment in which the process takes place.
There is talk of the newsroom with no walls. Or the circular central desk. Not one style fits all, of course.
I am totally impressed by the functionality, style and aesthetics of the new Aftenposten building, a newsroom that inspires conversation in a series of small and cozy living room environments around the building, the size of the room and the total lack of individual offices with doors for editor, which offers a glimpse of a newsroom where people are accessible and conversations can flourish freely, without the need of an appointment or knocking on someone's door.
This may be the newsroom of the future, complete with a social gathering "circle" in the middle of the newsroom, in front of which is a giant screen for editors to check on the latest statistics for audience, content and platform, plus front pages of all the other newspapers of Norway, and TV screens where editors can see what television network is reporting.
