鹿児島県大島郡喜界島，阿伝集落のまちなみです。
かつて，サンゴの石垣は奄美諸島各地に普通に見られたそうですが，石垣の隙間にハブが住み着くから，という理由で、今ではほとんど無くなってしまいました。
ハブのいない喜界島では，阿伝集落をはじめとしたいくつかの集落でサンゴの石垣が現存し，郷愁をかもしだしています。

The scenery of Aden village on Kikaijima-Island.
Kikaijima is one of the Satsunan Islands, classed with the Amami archipelago between Kyūshū and Okinawa.
Formerly, there were so many coral walls everywhere on the Amami archipelago, but they decreased gradually, because they gave burrows for habu (Trimeresurus flavoviridis, yellow-spotted pit viper).
Habus don’t live on Kikaijima-Island, so coral walls still remain around Aden village, and carry our thoughts back to the old days.
