Adam Ant and the Glam Skanks Rock Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall

Adam Ant played a significant part in how we consume our music. His creative use of music videos was instrumental in not only his band's success but also helped to launch MTV.

On a sleepy, late summer Sunday, Adam Ant brought the 2019 Friend or Foe tour to Toronto's Danforth Music Hall.

He brought along a badass, glamourous, all-female, Hollywood rock and roll band, Glam Skanks for support.

Glam Skanks are Vanessa McNiel on vocals, Veronica Witkin on guitar, Millie Chan on bass, and Jessica Goodwin on drums.

The band have opened for Alice Cooper, The Skids, played as the backing band for Cherie Currie (The Runaways), jammed with Steven Tyler and toured Europe. They were an excellent choice for this tour.

Glam Skanks put on an incredible set, and they have won me over. They played music from their 2016 release Glitter City, and both Don't Waste It and Hot Stuff. The crowd loved the Donna Summer cover.

Vanessa's voice is strong, rich, and fresh. She's a master of the stage, a pleasure to listen to and to watch. On drums, Jessica held down the beat. She was intense and all in. Driving, technically tight guitar from Veronica was key to the band's sound. But, it wouldn't have been the same without Millie on bass.

All in all, this band was everything I could have hoped for. I hope they're coming back to Toronto soon.

As the clock ticked closer to 9:00, the room got more and more crowded, and people moved closer to the stage.

When the band started to take the stage, the crowd cheered. From the first note, we were transported back in time. The moment Adam took the stage, the cheers just got louder. There's something exceptional about full album sets. You know exactly what's coming next, but the moments are mixed with the vibrancy and intensity of a live performance.

He played through the album and gave everyone the show they wanted and needed.

Adam Ant is known for his showmanship, and his years in the business have just served to hone that talent. With every smile, every hip thrust, every spin, he charmed the pants off us. The band was in fine form, and I loved the double drum kit.

I have to admit, I missed the horns. They're such a part of my memory; however, I understand that adding a horns section isn't always possible.
