Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown has caused quite a stir in recent weeks, with many questioning his antics and how they might impact his standing with the franchise long-term. However, it appears as if the Steelers are moving past the controversial Facebook video that cost him $10,000, as Brown claimed on the Dan Patrick Show on Friday that the two sides were in the process of negotiating an extension.
Brown enters the last year of a six-year deal he signed prior to the 2012 season in 2017, and he’s set to carry a cap hit of $13.6 million. However, a new deal could set the standard among wide receivers with the 28-year-old still very clearly in his prime.
In 2016, Brown was just the 18th highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL despite record production. So a new deal would likely require $14-15 million annually that’s being paid to other top receivers like A.J. Green, Julio Jones, Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant.
Brown has had 100-plus catches, 1,200-plus receiving yards and 8-or-more touchdown receptions in each of the past four seasons, which is a NFL record.
