After a break over Christmas (to make room for various festive selections), the long-running A-Z series returns. Hopefully soon we might finaly move on to the letter 'B'. For now, here's quirky Sheffield trio The All Seeing I with a track that is probably still their best known moment. The group consisted of Dean Honer, Jason Buckle and DJ Parrot (real name Richard Barratt) and 'Beat Goes On' was a cover of the 1967 Sonny Bono track. The song was sung at Sonny Bono's funeral, and the phrase "And the beat goes on" appears on his tombstone.The All Seeing I's version featured the vocals from Buddy Rich's version of the song, which were sung by his daughter Cathy. It went to number 11 in the UK singles charts, and a re-recorded version was featured on the band'sc 1999 debut album Pickled Eggs and Sherbet. The album reached No. 45 on the UK Albums Charts and featured guest vocals from Sheffield music legends such as Tony Christie, Jarvis Cocker, Philip Oakley and Babybird mastermind Stephen Jones.
Dean Honer is also a member of I Monster, and a producer. He recently mastered The Lucid Dream's astonishing 2018 album 'Actualisation'.
