A Trip from Delhi, Jaipur, Agra Or The Golden Triangle

By Dinesh Singh @travellerpath

India is a nation with more than 1.25 billion people but still they are 1.25 billion happy, sad and most important cool people. The history of India goes back to 5000 years and it still offers the glimpse of its historic glory in its different cities. More than 100,000 people visit India for business and exploration every day and this post is for the 2nd category, explorers.

Hi all I am Jatin from Rajputana cabs in Jaipur and today I want to share a 4 day trip which is explored by thousands of domestic and foreign travellers every day. I am talking about the “Golden Triangle” tour of India.

The term Golden Triangle was first coined by travel agents in India. It’s a tour package where one explore New Delhi and then move for Jaipur, Agra and back to Delhi. The route of these 3 cities created a triangle shape, check the below picture, and seriously its selling like Gold in India.

Delhi Agra Jaipur

Now as I am an advent traveler so I decided to share my experience with thousands of other who plan to visit the triangle. So let’s begin with the starting point, & even the finishing one- New Delhi.

The Capital of India – New Delhi

With more than 22 million populations Delhi is simple packed with Public, Parks, Pubs and Puja sthal (Temples). Delhi is the capital so my favorite destination here is the India Gate and the Vijay Chowk area. This part of Delhi comes in the Lutyens Zone which was built in the British era. The term Puja sthal is a Hindi term which means temples but for me the Puja sthal of Delhi include Hindu, Jain & Sikh temples, Islamic Mosques, Church and Buddhist temple.

India Gate Delhi

India Gate

Delhi is a multi-religion society. It has seen the rule of Hindus, Sikhs, Mughals, Britishers and the list in long. All these empires have their architectural and cultural stamps on Delhi and it’s visible on tourist spots like Humayun tomb, Rakabganj gurdwara, Jantar mantar and my favorite the Red fort.

Modern Delhi is just like the western cities like New York or Berlin. But if you are interested to experience this part of Delhi then do visit Connaught place, Haus Khus and Gurgaon. They have all the awesome pubs & bars where you will love to spend some hours.

The City which is Pink – Jaipur

Jaipur, also referred as the pink city is my favorite city in whole India, though I am a Delhi born man. Jaipur is very similar to Delhi in History but the only difference is that the locals here are more attached with their culture and respect to their Kings though they aren’t in power anymore.

Rajasthan Jaipur Jaigarh Fort Perimeter Walls

The distance of Jaipur from Delhi is 265 Kms and it’s a 5-6 hour drive by road. Note* there is some construction going on Delhi-Jaipur read so the time mentioned above can go up to 8-9 hours. The entry gate of Jaipur is Amer and Jaipur welcomes you with its massive fort and everyone’s favorite “Amer Fort”.

Finished in 1592 Amer fort today receives more than 5000 travellers every day. This fort has seen many battles and the sole purpose of this fort & Jaigarh fort (very close from Amer) is to protect the City Palace in the Pink City part of Jaipur or the older part of Jaipur. If you are a die-heart fan of Hindi movies than you might have seen Amer fort in more than dozen movies which have been filmed here.

Apart from Amer and Pink city destination which also include Hawa Mahal & Jantar Mantar of Jaipur, one must have a shopping experience in MI Road. This is the most popular street in Jaipur and one can neasily taste the local Jaipur cuisine is restaurants like Peacock Rooftop or Niroz.

One last thing which I will skip is my later trips to Jaipur is Chokhi Dhani and Albert museum. But it doesn’t means that you need to skip them too. If you haven’t explored the above two than your trip to Jaipur will remain incomplete.

A city of never ending love – Agra

I believe that the synonym of Agra is Taj Mahal. A structure built by a king who was in love with his 3rd wife and decided to show her a reflection of heaven. Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

Taj Mahal Agra

Taj Mahal Agra

Everyone who has landed on any Indian airport and wants to experience India wouldn’t even dream of not visiting Taj. When I first visited Taj Mahal back in 2006 I wasn’t able to get my eyes away from it. Note* Video cameras aren’t allowed near to Taj structure. Its beauty can simply take your breath away and on full moon it simple becomes the reflection of heaven on earth.

So my friend there is so much to see in Agra but our journey to the Golden triangle finished with Taj. If you have visited any of the above cities then I would like encourage you to share your views in the below comment box.
