The biggest producer of pancakes in New Zealand - Marcel's Pancakes, a family based company, have launched here in Perth to share the pancake magic before expanding throughout the rest of Australia.
Pancakes were a classic childhood favourite, so when I heard about a four-course pancake feast, you could probably imagine how keen I was for some pancake taste testing.
I have to mention, upon arrival of the launch held at Perth City Farm I was blown away by the beautiful setup. Rustic setting yet gorgeous table décor. Then my eyes were drawn to the exciting menu showcasing Marcel's products with savoury and sweet courses. I knew I was in for a treat!
The night started off with these delightful canapés - the first was crepe with shaved ham, gruyere and mushroom, followed by a mini pancake with New Zealand scallop, potato blinis, caviar, crème fraiche and chilli. These definitely had me excited for the following pancake and crêpe creations.
Peking duck is one of my favourite (if not most favourite) dishes, so I was dying to try the first course when it came out. Here is the peking duck breast with hoi sin, spring onion and cucumber. The crêpe was nice and light as I expected - who would've known to make peking duck with crêpes available from your local IGA? Genius!
Who doesn't love a good pancake stack? Here is the creation of a bitter chocolate pancake stack with raspberry & star anise glaze and whipped maple cream. No one with a sweet tooth can turn these happy pancakes down.
Followed by a stunning crepe suzette with double crème and candied orange. Again, the crêpe was thin and light - delightful to eat.
We also had the chance to bring out our inner creativity at the MYO station and create our own Marcel pancake with classic toppings like strawberries and blueberries, as well as exciting toppings like popping candy and fairy floss.
Here was my creation - don't think my chances of being the most creative pancake maker are too high, (as long as it still tastes good).
To top off my already amazing night, we left with an awesome goodie bag... the biggest I've seen and filled with all sorts of pancakes and crêpes. This obviously meant I was having pancakes for breakfast the next morning. I tried the Merry Blueberry Pancakes and was not disappointed at all, in fact it was my favourite. These pancakes are perfect for a quick and easy breakfast or snack, especially in winter when you just want to jump back into bed.
