For the past six years congress has been doing nothing but fighting. Our President does not understand how to bring members of Congress together. He has proven himself a poor leader for our country even though he may hold ideals favored by many. He has been less than effective and has instead pointed the finger at those who hold differing views from his, thus widening the gap between himself and Congress. Other than the Affordable Care Act which has major flaws, he has not been able to get any of his ideas passed by Congress because he does not know how to compromise, just to dictate and point the finger at others. He has thought that he could mobilize the electorate to force their legislators to follow his ideas, and this has proven to be ineffective. Major legislation to improve the lives of our citizens has been on hold as the Democrats and Republicans in Congress, aided and abetted by the President have been fighting. We have been electing representatives that do not understand the principles of compromise. Tea party reactionaries hold fine ideals but have not learned that they cannot get them enacted without give and take as others have different fine ideals held as strongly as theirs. We need people in Congress that can move forward through compromise and there are now 97 members of Congress who seem to understand this while the other 130 or so in the House and the 100 in the Senate are childish and have held the people hostage too long.
Ninety seven members of Congress have come together to try to solve this impasse. They have formed an organization called No Labels (www.NoLabels.org). They meet regularly in an attempt to originate legislation through discussion and compromise. This is the only hope we the people have to get something accomplished in Washington. Of course the media has not done much as yet to cover this story as it is not colorful enough. Fox News, CNN, none have done the job needed to make this public knowledge and get the groundswell started among the populace to encourage other Congressman and Senators to join the discussion. It is time that they come to the table and do what Congress has done for years before the present era of the “Do Nothing Important” Congress that we have seen for the last 6 years. We must all urge our own legislators to join this group and bypass the leadership that has done little to encourage the kind of bull that pervades Washington today. So visit this web site (www.NoLabels.org) and write to your own legislators to join the others who are already at the table. In addition, even though some, like Ted Cruz, represent the views that we hold, we should have learned that they cannot get these ideals passed by just blocking everything else. We need to elect others who hold our ideals but understand the job of the Congress to move our country forward through give and take rather than just spouting platitudes.
