A Necessary Look Into the Future of the #Steelers

By Kipper @pghsportsforum
I saw an interesting mock draft this morn on Yahoo Sports. It had the Steelers, with the 7th overall pick, taking Mariota the QB from Oregon. Now, Mariota's talents not withstanding (but I think he's an absolute stud and would be a star in the NFL) but what say you all about weighing the need to retool the team as a whole vs build around Ben?

Talking points:
1. Ben is 31, he has 3 years left on his deal through 2016. His annual cap hit is $18 mil.

2. With the team getting older and an overall lack of talent at many key positions, is building around an $18 mil/year QB really what you want to do?
3. If you keep and extend Ben, what sort of contract do you offer a 34 (by 2016) year old QB when the time comes? Is that prudent? Is that risky?
4. Is it better to draft a young stud QB and possibly trade Ben this offseason while he still has great trade value to a team (hello AZ and Arians) and get more picks to load for the future? I mean we do need an influx of talent at many positions, a trade like that would help immensely.
So what say you? I honestly can't decide which I'd be for, it's a tough situation, but I do think it's a worthy discussion to have.
