a Healthy Pregnancy: My Vitamin Regimen

By Lindsayleighbentley @lindsayLbentley

I’ve had a lot of questions related to the supplements that I am currently taking through my pregnancy.  Keep in mind I am not a Doctor or midwife, this is just what I am personally taking.

There are some who will argue that you don’t need supplements.  That you should get all of your  nutrients from food.  And I agree that you should get all of your nutrients from food.  However, I am not conviced that I consistently get the proper balance that I need.  Additionally, I got pregnant so soon after Miles was born that I could tell my body was struggling a bit to support all three of us (ie: my skin was SUPER dry, which is not normal for me).

So, I do take a few supplements.

However, I am very, very picky about the ones I take.  Now is not the time to cut corners and save money.  Many, many vitamins are synthetic, and contain ingredients that are not supportive of a healthy body.

Many also contain GMO products which is why buying either organic or non-GMO vitamins is very important.

I had my chiropractor muscle test me to see what dosage my body personally needed, and it turns out that I need less than the recommended amount for a few of them.  However, I would follow the advice of your Dr., Midwife, or take the “recommended dosage” on the back.

Honestly, I don’t love the Vitacost vitamin D.  I don’t really know why, but I’m ordering Carlson tomorrow to replace it.  It’s fine, I just prefer the Carlson.

The B Complex is something that not every pregnant woman needs, but it has seemed to help tremendously with nausea, and my family tends to be vitamin B deficient, so I actually take more of this than the “recommended” amount.

Also, I will sometimes take Carlson Cod Liver Oil Elite in place of (or in addition to) my fermented oil.

I am also sure to get lots of fermented foods like kombucha, sauerkraut, fermented beets, kimchi (recipe coming soon!) and homemade raw yogurt in my diet so I don’t take a probiotic.  And I drink at least a gallon of purified water every day, one quart of which I do lemon juice and zest to support my liver.
