As many people can attest, dry eyes are a huge nuisance. Dry eyes are often red, itchy, burning, stinging, or are linked to blurred vision. This problem is due to the eyes not being able to produce enough tears, which are meant to remove debris and other sources of irritation. Fatigue, excess heat or cold, and wind further aggravate dry eyes. Medications such as antihistamines and decongestants are also associated with dry eyes. Fortunately, there are a few home remedies for dry eyes you can implement to abate this problem.

Adjust the Air

Insufficient moisture in the air is often disadvantageous to those with dry eye problems. People who live in arid climates often complain about dry eyes. However, you can adjust the air by investing in a cool mist humidifier. This device is placed in bedrooms and offices so you can fight against the dryness. The humidifier will release mist into the air so you don’t have to invest in eye drops.

Rest Your Eyes

The more exposure your eyes have to air, the drier they may become. The problem can be worse if you’re performing an activity that requires straining your eyes. If you sit at a computer for an extended period of time, take a break. Cup your palms over your eyes and close them for about half a minute. This task should allow your eyes to produce more moisture. Another thing you can do to rest your eyes is to blink. Continually blink throughout your day so your eyes will be lubricated.

Use Appropriate Eyewear

If you suffer from dry eyes, be sure you put on the appropriate eye gear to protect yourself from the elements. If conditions are windy outside, put on your eyeglasses or sunglasses. For going out for a swim in the pool, be sure you wear goggles. This aquatic eyewear will shield your eyes from the effects of chlorine. The chlorine often leads to people rubbing their eyes because they are itchy or red. Rubbing only exacerbates the dry eye problem. Try out these home remedies for dry eyes and watch them work their magic!
