Biking or Skateboarding
Riding a bike or skateboard around the neighbor has been enjoyed by generations of children, either as a means of transport or just for the heck of it. The other advantage is it gets kids off the couch and into the fresh air for exercise. Many towns and suburbs have designated skateboard parks where children can gather and hone their skills on purpose-built ramps and jumps. If you live in the right area and the weather is fine, why not pack the family up for a day at the beach? Families lucky enough to live on a coastline get to use the beach as a gathering point to swim, to rest and to play in the sand. It is good to be out in the fresh, salt air and to soak up some Vitamin D from the sun. Just take plenty of 50+ sunscreen with you to make sure your day out doesn’t do more harm than good.

Kite flying is a pastime once enjoyed by children the world over but has lost some of its appeal in the age of computer games and DVDs. Perhaps it’s time to revive it and to introduce your children to the joys of controlling a bird-like device meters in the air while you stand firmly on the ground. Just because the children are on a summer break doesn’t mean they can’t get some extra-curricular education. A visit to the local museum can be fun, exciting and educational all at the same time. Most museums are large places, so it’s best to do a little research before you go to make sure you get to all the exhibits that interest you. Most importantly, have fun. It is extraordinary how much children learn if they are having fun while doing it.
Crafts at Home
Of course, most parents are busy people and won’t always have the time to drop everything to take the kids to the beach or museum. The answer could be to turn a spare room or space at home into a temporary craft factory. Visit your local craft store and buy all the material the kids might need for crafts at home. Stock up on scissors, paper, cardboard, glue, glitter and anything else you can think of and let the little ones be creative during the summer break.Don’t be too overwhelmed by the thought of bored and idle children this summer. With a little thought and planning, they can be easily entertained and occupied. Put your heads together and come up with some of activities everyone wants to do and the summer will fly by.
