I've decided to start blog seriesA Day in …where I’ll be writing about different day trips/or day stops I've had in different cities around the world.
Today, I’d like to introduce youDole – a tiny, absolutely adorable town in Franche-Comte, Eastern France.
I won’t talk you into changing your route to pay a special visit to the city (it’s me who lives in 15 min train ride from Besancon and can go there any time). Yet, Dole has its small airport with Ryanair flights from-to London, Marrakesh and Porto (the last ones can be dirty cheap in low season). Besides, new routes to Venice, Rome, Barcelona, Nice and some other destinations will be launched this summer (can’t wait!). Check outDole airport websitefor all destinations.
So, in case you have a few spare hours before you flight, here’s a short city guide for things to in Dole:
- Marvel Basilique Notre-Dame de Dole in the heart of the city. - Follow the Cat Watch your step for small golden triangles pointing your direction to main points of interests and beautiful views.
I've seen the same thing done in Dijon - owl path and in Besancon each icon has a view of the attraction you're directed to. I'd suggest someone to make "Follow the White Rabbit" trail too - Just Wonder around extremely narrow streets with amazing medieval houses, get a bite of (always delicious) food in a street café and get down to the river to check out local little Venice – a town system of few canals and dams.
- Grab some macaroons.Super delicious here! Our any other fantastic French pasrty. -Check out the local Mediatheque.
Placed in this medieval mansion with beautiful patio inside.
I’ve spent here at least an hour checking out those cool Tashen Photography Books and going through a few History ones. And OMG they were in English! The place is quiet, has lots of cozy chairs to sit and free Wi-fi. In case you have Dole as your landing spot in France, spend a few more days exploring nearby Besancon (feel free drop a message to catch up with me) or Arbois – the wine capital of Franche-Comte To follow A Day in … series, please Follow Me on Bloglovin and Twitter.
