The Reason I Dressed
I’ve written before about the used toy sale, it is my favorite event in Modena and where I buy ALL of my son’s toys. I’ve posted a few photos of this event below, and I’ve written about it before here, it is actually held in an area that was once an ancient Roman road that they uncovered while making a parking lot.
What I Wore
This is my “new” knitted bomber coat, it is 100% dyed and artisan made by HAND with beautiful big marbled buttons! The original price was almost 300 Euro ($420!) but I got it online here for 70% off! I bought it a few months ago and it has been in my closet waiting for warmer weather.
I’ll often buy in advance, if you read my Fashion Foresight posts you know that I love scoring items for cheap months before I’ll want to wear them. This way I save a lot of money but always have new fun things to wear.
Stefanel is an Italian brand and I love most of their designs, specifically their outer wear like my other Stefanel “robe” coat, that I’ve been wearing non-stop (you can see it here).
I finished this look with a cropped sweatshirt I bought like 15 years ago (I hold onto my clothes!), since cropped is all the rage this Spring. Time to do a few more sit-ups I guess.
The thing I love about this crop top sweater is that it covers my belly with just a bit of skin poking through the bottom, so although I’m pretty comfortable with my stomach I’ve not quite ready to go prancing around showing my full midriff (I am 34 after all!).
I’m wearing soft chinos from H&M, Asos leather chelsea boots (bought for under 50 euro!) and a scarf I bought for 5 euro from a market stall. My bag is also by an Italian brand called David & Scotti and it is completely made in Florence, it is no longer available since it is OLD!
My sunglasses were the best steal of all, they were discounted to 5 euro and are from the children’s department of a bookstore!! Since I have the same head size as a 4 year old they fit PERFECTLY!
The Used Toy Sale
I’ve posted a few photos in this post of all the things I’ve bought at this used toy sale, held 4 times a year. I pretty much refuse to buy my son new toys and instead find everything I need from these market stalls run by kids who sell their old toys at a price that THEY SET!
This edition we showed up late but I still managed to fill the car with great finds like a portable folding restaurant highchair for 2 euro and 4 tennis rackets bought for 11 cents EACH!!
Rome
I’ve you’ve been following along this week, you know that I’ve had ROME on my mind. My husband and I have decided to take my son to Rome for his second birthday instead of doing a traditional party.
I’ve enlisted the help of my Roman friend to come up with a list of 5 Fun Places to Take Young Kids in Rome, and yesterday I featured one of my Roman friends living in Modena who has a daughter the same age as my son and her fabulous style.
Sadly, I don’t have many nice pictures of the outfits I’ve worn to Rome in the past…since ….well I just started blogging about style! So I decided to post this ensemble from the toy sale from last week since, in the evening of that same day, I parked the car LIKE A ROMAN!! Check it out!
This is quite possibly one of my greatest accomplishments since moving to Italy. I got my Italian driver’s license while I was pregnant with my son, since in Italy once you become a resident, your North American license is no longer VALID!!! And for good reason.
The rules are completely different and North American drivers aren’t used to all of the different road signs, scooters, bikes, pedestrians and one ways that there are in Italy.
If someone had asked me 6 years ago if I would have been able to park a car in a spot the exact same size as the car I would have said “NO WAY”! The fact that I can now park (almost) like a Roman is HUGE FOR ME. My Roman friend Nicola, who I will be introducing you to this week, can park a car in a space smaller than his car…..well almost smaller.
I hope you are enjoying this what I wore + where I went series and also my Rome updates. Have a great week!
