It seems to me that even though everyone is not committing to having a "hipster" wedding, the elements are starting to be introduced as an unexpected element in even more traditional, mainstream events. Chalkboards, mirrors, etc. are being asked about more and more.A brief, but concise definition of hipster would be:
...An individual that cherishes vintage clothing/apparel as well as music/bands, books and entertainment that are counter culture or not in the mainstream.
This is the "ironic" couple. Think mustaches, lumberjack-meets-roadie beards, glasses, bow ties, etc. Heck, it was recently reported that the Hipster culture in Brooklyn has grown so popular that guys are getting beard implants done with regularity! Talk about commitment...
Anywho, I thought it was time for an overview since these elements seem to be finally replacing Vintage/Rustic and Shabby Chic. There are similarities for sure, but the traditional version of the aforementioned genres/themes seem close to becoming a thing of the past.
1. Chalkboards - I've done a couple of chalkboard primers so far... An introduction and then one with more of a D.I.Y. slant. The chalkboard is easy to introduce in your decor for two reasons. One because its easy to create the surface (with paint or with contact paper) and existing chalkboards are becoming more widely available.
This chalkboard distressed stencil metal frame is PERFECT as a hipster element.
Mixing the old with the new...
2. Mirrors - I've already done 4 mirrors this wedding season and we aren't even completely done with the first quarter. I am for sure that these were not all "hipster" weddings. The great thing about mirrors (and chalkboards for that matter) is that depending on the frames or how they are "housed", they can be dressed up or down!
3. Polaroids - We blogged about polaroids a couple of years back... This element appears to have grown in popularity since that time... Particularly as an alternative to the traditional guestbook! You just need to provide signage instructing your guests to take a pic of themselves, affix it to the provided guestbook, and then write a note to the couple next to their photo! I'd recommend having some hostesses man this table to avoid a log jam though!

Twirl your mustaches and ponder these 3 elements and I'll be back on Friday!
