A Christmas Story Window exhibit will be the big feature this holiday season at Fair Oaks Farms in Fair Oaks, Indiana–but only for a limited time.Mrs. Parker probably wouldn’t appreciate a display of the “major award” leg lamp, but anyone nearby or visiting Jasper County or Newton County can certainly get an eyeful!

It’s A Christmas Story Comes Home exhibit presented in agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products.
Once a Macy’s window display in New York, the “A Christmas Story” series now makes its annual appearance every Christmas at the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond, Indiana.
Seven window displays are currently featured there minus one traveling exhibit–The Parker Living Room that has a home this season at Fair Oaks Farms.
A New Holiday Tradition
Last year was the first year for the traveling display. Folks at Riley’s Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana got a dose of holiday cheer from the large exhibit. Now, it’s Fair Oaks turn!
The goal is to share this traveling exhibit with a different location each year. What an exhibit it is! Remember, this is an animated window display–so it isn’t exactly tiny.
The Indiana Welcome Center is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is located at 7770 Corinne Drive, Hammond, Indiana 46323. For more information on the farm, please find the address and phone number below.

A Christmas Story was taken from a collection of short stories from the 1966 book In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash written by Jean Shepherd. A trio, that included Jean Shepherd, formed the book into the script and the rest, as they say, is movie history!What you may not realize is that the book was written with a nod to the author’s hometown, Hammond, Indiana. Set in Hohman, Indiana, a fictional town, Hohman is actually a street in Hammond. Don’t you love when things circle back like that?
Not only did the author narrate the movie, but he even appears briefly in the department store scene! He’s the man that gave Ralphie and his brother directions.
