A Bit Of A Rant...

By Hollysbeautybox @hollysbeautybox
I've been blogging for five years now and along the way I've worked with quite literally hundreds of brands. Whether that be a social media mention, a product review or a sponsored article.
A Bit Of A Rant...
I don't want to get too specific about a situation I had recently (check it out on my Twitter if you're as nosy as I am @hollysbeautybox ).
Long story cut short, a brand I have worked with for four years have recently moved in house for their PR & Blogger relations. I reached out to re-establish a connection and let them know about the numerous times I've worked with them etc boring etc. I also asked to be added to their mailing list and let them know that as always, I am more than happy to review something if they want to send it.
I received a really short email back letting me know that the brand has chosen which bloggers they wish to work with and 'good luck with your beauty blog'. A thirty second response after four years of working together.
Here's the rant (as if that wasn't enough!)
Why can't we all treat each other with mutual respect? Bloggers are not here for 'freebies' (Don't get me started on this!) and after four years of loyalty from my side (free promo most of the time might I add), I was dismissed in a three line email.
I responded to the email stating my disappointment in the response I received and was given a much nicer response from someone else. I said in the email I will continue to promote the brand because I genuinely like it (which I do!).
We're all human beings. Whether we clean the streets, wipe someones arse or sit on an effing throne. We are ALL human beings and we should all talk a bit nicer to each other and respect each other's efforts more.
Someone I spoke to once said:
'Holly, I read your recent blog post on self doubt and it really struck a chord with me. It spoke to me and I felt like I could relate to you'.
For a minute I said 'ahh thank you!' but what a total ASS of a response.
I thought about it and emailed the girl later to say 'I'm so sorry I didn't give a better response earlier. I guess I was shocked that something I did actually helped someone, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU. Thank YOU for taking the time to read my article, Thank you for making ME feel like I can relate to someone. It absolutely made my day hearing you say those things.'
I was truly grateful for it, I didn't just say 'ahh thanks' which took no thought or sentiment. When someone gives you something, the very least you can do is respond with something thoughtful.
Time is precious, life is precious. Let's make an effort to be nicer to each other. Myself included!
