9 Tips Indians Need to Be Happy Before Moving Abroad

By Jayshreebhagat

A few years ago I moved from Kolkata to Mumbai which was absolutely a new state for me. The reason for our move was due to my daddy’s business. Mumbai is definitely the best city to live in India, but as a child, I had to start from scratch. Now after I have grown up and have a three years old daughter, I wonder how difficult it is to shift to a totally new place, especially abroad! Hence, this time before we move to a different state or country, I will try to keep few rituals in mind to make the moves stress-free, painless, and of course FUN for her!

9 Tips Indians Need to Be Happy Before Moving Abroad

1. Study The Place

This definitely sounds too boring, but knowing about the new place where you will move is a good idea. It is good to know about the customs, food, history, interesting places and challenges of the new place.  Such information also helps you to make friends easily and move around with confidence rather than a timid tourist.

2. Proper Documentation

Proper visa documentation is the most important procedure to move abroad. In addition, Make sure to collect copies of all your important documents such as birth certificate, passport, driver’s license, & immunization records.

3. Saving Money

There are many expenses while moving abroad like plane tickets, visa application, housing, international shipments, and medical emergencies. Also, do a good research on the exchange rate & the cost of living in a new home. You definitely have to be prepared with a monthly budget plan and pay unanticipated costs.

The First step is to check the new country’s government official website and get an idea about the documentation for the application. Sometimes, you will also need to get an appointment at the application support center and submit your biometrics.

5. English Language Skills

English isn’t your 1st language? And English language proficiency for immigration and student visas is scaring you? Study abroad application can also ask you for English Language Test like IELTS or TOEFL. These English Tests look easy, but writing and speaking a new language in a sophisticated manner is difficult. In order to clear the test, one needs to put a continuous effort. But PTE Academic is a quick fix that helps in boosting your English language skills test performance for university, professional & migration at a very short notice.

PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is actually a computer-based language test which helps the candidates learn fastest and in the most flexible way. PTE Academic is the best English Test option which is widely accepted by numerous universities & countries for education, immigration or work. Also, the scoring system on PTE includes your overall score, communicative skills scores & enabling skills scores. You can choose from the abundance of Test Centres as per your convenience. 6. Plan for the Health Care

Make sure if your health care provider is ready to cover you while you’re abroad. Also, collect all your medical records, prescription medications & necessary immunizations from health care professionals.

7. Domestic Research

There’s going to be a lot of transition in your new home while you’re planning to move abroad with just two suitcases.  Find out outlets, retails or stores in advance from where you can purchase your must-haves such as bedding, furniture, grocery, kitchen appliances, utensils, and laundry.

8. Banking and Phone Providers

Maintain the current bank account for credit score & direct payments for outstanding loans or ongoing bills. Keep informed about your travel dates to the bank & Credit Card Company. You can avoid any foreign transaction fees by getting an international credit card. Do a good research with the banks in your new city to gather all paperwork to simplify the process in setting up a savings/checking account.

International cell phone plans tend to be costly; hence you can purchase a new SIM card from the local carrier to replace in your phone.
