The Labor Department released their weekly statistics on workers filing for unemployment benefits on Thursday. It showed that another 884,000 workers filed. That marks the first time since March 14th that less than a million workers had filed for two weeks in a row (and it was still about four times as many as filed in March). The recession is far from over, despite what Trump would like for you to believe.
Here is the official Labor Department statement:
In the week ending September 5, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 884,000, unchanged from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 3,000 from 881,000 to 884,000. The 4- week moving average was 970,750, a decrease of 21,750 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 750 from 991,750 to 992,500.
