By Alyssa Martinez @ItsMariaAlyssa

Women all over the world spend a great number of hours on hair maintenance. Whether it's removing unwanted body hair or pampering us the hair on our head to make it as luscious as we possibly can, the management seems never-ending.

When it comes to our locks, thick, healthy and shiny hair is incredibly coveted, but how do we get it? We have 7 amazing tips that will help you see an improvement in the quality of your hair in no time.

7 Tips for Getting Your Hair Looking its Best

1. Consume a more balanced diet

The saying goes, "you are what you eat," but, in this case, it is "your hair is what you eat".

It is commonly acknowledged that a diet rich in vitamins and minerals will greatly improve our body's health, immune system, and even our skin, so of course, that rule extends to the quality of our hair.

To really get the best out of your hair, you should consume a balanced diet with lots of anti-oxidant-rich foods and dark leafy greens. Also, don't skimp on your protein, as this will improve your hair's strength and protect it from brittleness and breakage. And remember to stay hydrated!

2. Try supplements

If you feel your hair, skin, and nails needs an extra boost in nourishment, why not try taking health supplements alongside a balanced diet. Iron tablets are great for strengthening and improving the quality and thickness of the hair and taken alongside Vitamin C and Zinc you can really increase its the absorption levels.

3. Don't over-wash

A common misconception is that if we want our hair to be its healthiest, we must wash it as often as possible, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Don't ever over-wash your hair, as you will strip it of all its healthy oils, and will cause it to become coarse and lackluster.

Instead, only wash your hair twice or three times a week. You might find this difficult at first, but your hair will soon settle into a routine and you will find that it doesn't need more washes than this.

4. Steer clear of heated styling products

When it comes to styling, there is always the temptation to blast your hair with high-heat styling products: straighteners, curlers, hair dryers. However, you should only use these occasionally, as the heat will fry your hair and cause it to break and split at the ends.

If you really need to use heated products, try waiting until your hair is 80% dry beforehand, so you reduce the level of damage. Try to use a lower heat setting, and accompany your styling routine with some hair protection products to restore its moisture.

If you're really serious about improving the quality of your hair, and maybe you want it to grow, you should cut out styling altogether and stick to towel-drying.

5. Pamper your hair weekly

Just like you use face masks when your skin is looking a little parched and in need of some TLC, why not lather on a hair mask at the same time.

You can buy hair mask that contains great ingredients such as Argan oil and coconut oil, which can really help to deeply condition and nourish the hair. Leave it in for 10 minutes and thoroughly wash it out.

For an extreme pampering session, you can even leave it in overnight, but make sure to wrap the hair up so you don't ruin your pillows!

6. Experiment with home remedies

There are many home remedies said to greatly improve the thickness of your hair. The best essential oils are rosemary and ylang-ylang, and the best carrier oils are jojoba oil, Argan oil and avocado oil and castor oil.

You can also try applying an egg mask, by mixing egg whites with olive oil and applying it to damp hair for 20 minutes. The results are amazing.

7. Use a hair growth product

If you feel like you've tried everything, and your hair just isn't growing or looking denser, then it's time to look into more specialist products.

A hair growth shampoo that you use multiple times a week will stimulate the hair follicles and boost hair growth, leaving it looking nourished and revitalized.

By following these steps your hair will be transformed into thick and nourished locks in a matter of weeks.
