6 Reasons Why Video Games Are Bad for You

Dozens of research conducted by organizations around the world have proved that playing video games can actually be good for your health. A recent research suggests that playing certain type of video games including puzzle and strategy games helps improve “the brain regions responsible for spatial orientation, memory formation and strategic planning and fine motor skills.” But, this doesn’t mean there’s no negative effects in gaming, especially when you play a lot of violent games.

Bad Social Behaviour

One of the main side effects of video gaming is that a lot of gamers who play role-playing games often tries to imitate its’ characters in real-life, causing them to develop aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Especially when you couldn’t surpass a certain level of a violent game or solve a puzzle after trying many times, players find themselves frustrated and blasts off their anger upon people around them.

Low Productivity

When you leave a video game half way, your mind begins to wander off to where you left that game, instead of focusing on your work and studies. This eventually ends up with you going back to playing the video game, leaving work unfinished.

Health Issues

Muscle pain and obesity is one of the many health issues that a lot of young adults are experiencing due to poor posture during long hours of gaming. A report in Journal of Adolescence found a direct link with childhood obesity and vast activity levels to video games. In addition video-induced seizures, muscular and skeletal disorders are some other main health issues that comes with video games.

Bad Language and Attitude

Explicit language is a key feature in violent video games. A lot of teenagers these days uses these games to learn most of their bad vocabulary and often use those words in real-life conversations, imitating the characters in games. Many young gamers also develop bad attitude towards women after playing certain games as a lot of modern video games portray women as weaker characters.

Poor Performance Skills

Video games may help develop new skills and improve brain activity, but a number of studies have shown that children who play video games doesn’t devote enough time for school work, this always comes followed by bad grades in school and poor performance in regular activities.

Attention Problems

If you’ve found yourself having a hard time trying to concentrate on studies or an important meeting at work, don’t be surprised because according to a research conducted by American Psychological Association in 2011, the researchers found that people who play games subsequently have more attention problems than an ordinary person.
