It is a common practice to use your major appliances until they break down and die, squeezing every last load of laundry or meal out of it before getting a new one.

However, waiting until the last minute to replace a broken appliance can cost you more in the long run. Here are 6 reasons you should consider replacing your appliances early.

Save on Operating Costs

Your old appliance might be costing you a lot to run. Anything mechanical wears out over time and with use, and as it does so it requires more energy to do the same job.

Switching out your aging appliance for a new, Energy Star model can actually save you money that you would otherwise be spending on your electric bill each month. Two of the most crucial appliances to think about when trying to reduce energy costs is your refrigerator and your water heater. These appliances can each use as much as 20 or 30 percent of your home’s electricity, and getting efficient models is a must.

Energy Star, which is part of the Environmental Protection Agency, even offers a free calculator to show you how much you could save on a new Energy Star refrigerator versus your old refrigerator. Generally a refrigerator that is over 15 years old will cost hundreds of dollars more to run than a new Energy Star model.

Take Advantage of Sales

At the end of the calendar year, in the midst of holiday sales, manufacturers and retailers are eager to discount appliances. Here at Goedeker’s, while we always have the lowest factory-direct pricing, we list all of the available manufacturer rebates for appliances for your convenience.

The fall and winter are good times for purchasing appliances due to the holidays and new models coming out, but there are special sales and promotions at all times of the year. When a good deal on your preferred stove, refrigerator, or dryer shows up, it is better to order it, rather than wait until your current one dies and the promotion ends.

Get a Rebate or Tax Credit Now

In order to encourage energy conservation efforts, local governments and utility companies will offers special discounts, rebates, or tax credits on new energy efficient appliances. These are usually only done for a limited period of time.

Recently, we wrote about these offers and mentioned that Oregon residents at the time could even get a free water heater from combined tax credits and energy rebates. Check with your local accountant or energy company to find out what is available in your area.

Stay Productive

If your refrigerator were to die today, where would you keep your food cold? Few, if any retailers are able to give you a new appliance immediately. To get the best price from an online retailer like Goedeker’s, you need to allow for time for the appliances to arrive.

By ordering your new appliances before your current ones wear out, you ensure that you have an in-home way to do laundry, a place for cold food, a way to cook until the new appliances arrive.

Just think how many quarters you can save by not having to take your laundry to the laundromat while waiting for your new laundry machines.

Allow For Delays

When you need your appliance right now to replace your dead one, days and weeks can seem to stretch out forever. A shipping delay in getting your new appliances can make the ordeal feel even worse.

Again, by thinking ahead and ordering a replacement appliance before the old one wears out, you can make life at home keep going smoothly, even if unexpected shipping delays hold up your new appliances.

End the Frustration

Your time and effort are important. Dealing with a frustrating clothes dryer that takes two cycles to dry your laundry, or a finicky oven that doesn’t always work at the right temperature are hassles that you can be done with sooner than later.

Instead of directing your energy into appliances that are no longer working efficiently (or safely!) go ahead and order a new appliance that will have a warranty and work the way you expect it to. You deserve it!
