6 Awesome Honeymoon Destinations

You will go on a lot of vacations with your spouse in the happy years to come, but the honeymoon should be the best one of all. Fortunately, the world still recognizes marriage as the quintessential union, so there are countless places specifically accommodating to honeymooners. You have a hard choice to pick among them though - but that's a good problem to have.

1. The Lovely Wine Country of Sonoma, California

As romantic getaways go, you'd be hard-pressed to do better than Sonoma - in fact, you'd likely have to leave the country for Paris or someplace similar. The world-class wine here flow freely, and the food is delectable and varied.

Regarding the places to stay, Forestville Farmhouse Inn is a bit pricey - but the elegance of the rooms is a good place to try on those customized floral robes you got as a wedding gift. You may not leave the room much, but when you do, there are countless attractions.

2. Paris - Home of the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre

At night, the City of Love is almost like a different planet, where instead of air there's a heavenly sense of romance permeating the streets. A long-time custom for married couples is to visit the Pont des Arts bridge and wrap a ribbon around a post to signify their union. Of course, visits to the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre are obligatory - and you'll find all manner of hotel accommodations at the very best resorts.

3. Modern Rome - Venice, Italy

Comprised of more than a hundred islands languishing in a lovely blue lagoon of the Adriatic Sea, Venice is guaranteed to be the trip of a lifetime. One look at the incomparable Gothic and Renaissance architecture, and you'll immediately understand why it's a favorite destination for honeymooners and regular tourists alike. Stay on any of the private islands, where hotel rates are high - but worth every penny. A visit to the Palazzo Ducale is a must on such a trip.

4. Be Unique - Go On a Safari!

Outside of a national park on the Masai Mara or the Serengeti, you'll likely never see one of the so-called 'the Big 5' in all their glory. The elephant, rhino, Cape buffalo, leopard or African lion are marvelous creatures when seen at Kruger National (or similar lodge). Safaris are much more leisure-like than you might think; with quite a few highly-rated hotels and on-site lodges. And during the day, you'll share the experience of a lifetime watching Nature's mightiest animals hunt and play from a safe, mobile perch.

5. New York - the City of Dreams

Popularly known as the Big Apple, New York City is a vacationer's dream. Home of the fabled Empire State Building, the wealthy island of Manhattan and daunting expanse of the Central Park, you could let your honeymoon double as a tourist trip by paying the state a visit. There's plenty of shopping opportunities on the Saks Fifth Avenue, as well as immersion in the arts at the Broadway Theater and multitude of museums. Finding a place to stay isn't a problem in such a populated place - hotels range from the 3-star variety to the full-fledged 5-star luxury suite.

6. The Bahamas - Specifically, Harbour Island

This lovely place is the polar opposite of the hustle and bustle of New York City and boasts breathtaking pink beaches leading to an endless view of the Atlantic Ocean. A highly-rated place to stay is in Tingum Village, which has a private open-air balcony adjacent to each suite. A morning stroll along the pink paradise is the definition of a romantic getaway, and lunch can be had at a number of local eateries that are very open to visitors on Harbour Island.

There are much more possibilities for your romantic honeymoon getaway; the above cities are just the tip of the iceberg. The pictures you take will be perfect for years of reminiscing down the line.
