5 Reasons NOT to Buy Those Girl Scouts Cookies

Girl Scouts USA is beginning its annual cookie sales drive.

Here are 5 reasons NOT to buy those cookies:

1. Girl Scouts promote Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States

Bob Unruh reports for WND that two pro-life organizations, American Life League and American Family Association are boycotting Girl Scouts cookies and urging us to join them.

Judie Brown, president of the American Life League (ALL), America’s oldest Catholic pro-life education and advocacy group, warns: “The Girl Scouts was once a trusted organization dedicated to character building in young girls and women. Now, GSUSA is abusing that trust. Most parents and grandparents remain painfully unaware the GSUSA has introduced so-called ‘family planning’ ideology in its curriculum and promotes groups like Planned Parenthood to our daughters and granddaughters.”

For its part, the American Family Association (AFA), with its several million constituents and special divisions like OneMillionMoms.com which specifically work to influence corporate America, asks us to consider what Girl Scouts USA supports with all that dough. In a statement on its website, AFA says: “It’s hard to say no to those little girls in the green and brown sashes, but buying Girl Scout cookies serves only to further facilitate a very liberal pro-abortion agenda.”

Christy Volanski of LifeNews.com, whose two daughters are former Girl Scouts, warns us not to be fooled by Girl Scouts’ assurance that the national organization has no partnership with Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States.

Not only does GSUSA lauds Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger as an “eloquent woman” to young girls, GSUSA is part of several organizations, including the coalition for Adolescent Girls and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, which advocate for abortion.

GSUSA also conveniently “omits the fact that it allows every local Girl Scout council – the arm of Girl Scouts that actually connects with girl members in their local communities – to work with Planned Parenthood.” (See statement from Girl Scouts spokeswoman Michelle Tompkins affirming that the local connections are possible.)

Some examples of local Girl Scout groups that “work with” Planned Parenthood:

  • Girl Scouts of Northern California refers “at risk” girls to Planned Parenthood for help with “family planning.”
  • Girl Scouts of San Diego featured a Planned Parenthood “Community Engagement Manager” as a speaker.
  • Girl Scouts of Western New York works with Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups in programs aimed at tween/teen girls “to reduce teen pregnancy.”

Here are 4 more reasons NOT to buy Girl Scouts cookies:

2. They’re high in calories and sugar

3. They contain stuff you wouldn’t put in your cookies if you bake them yourselves: As the late Andy Rooney warned, the cookies contain partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, lecithin, niacin, riboflavin, and caramel coloring.

4. Where exactly are the cookies made?

Rooney pointed out that although one of the two companies that make Girl Scout Cookies is ABC Bakers, which is owned by Interbake Foods in Richmond, Va., the label on a GSUSA cookie box reads “Made for The Little Brownie Bakers in Louisville, Kentucky.” Note that the label says “made for,” not “made by” the Little Brownie Bakers in Louisville, Kentucky. Rooney wrote: the cookies are “actually made by the giant cookie company, Keebler. Keebler is owned by Kellogg’s but their name isn’t on the box, either. Nothing simple about this.”

5. Girl Scouts extol not just Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, but also communists, radical feminists, and lesbians. (Source)
