5 Quick Questions with Deric Ruttan!

We had a chance to sit down with Canadian country music singer and songwriter Deric Ruttan in London, ON during Canadian Country Music Week and asked him 5 quick questions...

We also asked for advice about surviving our first time at country music week and Deric graciously told us to pace ourselves, enjoy the festivities, and drink water.

We did a pretty good job of the first two things, but we failed pretty badly at the third. Sorry Deric.

And now, 5 quick questions with Deric Ruttan...

5 Quick Questions with Deric Ruttan!
Q1: If you had to listen to 1 album on repeat on a long drive or road trip, what CD are you putting in the player?

Deric: Don Williams Greatest Hits

It really shouldn't be a surprise that Ruttan would pick a hall of famer like Williams for a long road trip. We wouldn't mind joining him.

Q2: What is the first song you can remember knowing all of the words to?

Deric: The Rose by Bette Midler

Deric told us that he and his sister used to lip sync and play around a lot when they were younger, and The Rose was the song that he nailed first... maybe we'll hear him sing it for us some time.

Q3: When you're not working on music, what is your favourite hobby?

Deric: Spending time at home on his property

Deric has some land outside of Nashville that sounds like the place to be when you have downtime. He told us that he and his wife like to get out and ride four-wheelers, shoot guns, have a fire, all that good country stuff.

Q4: When you walk into a writing session, what do you need to have in the room so you can work?

Deric: Coffee with half and half

We will always support coffee as an answer to almost any question... but if you're hanging out with this guy make sure you bring the half and half, he made it pretty clear that it's a necessity.

Q5: What artist do you think people should be paying more attention to?

Deric: Steve Earle

No, he's not a new or emerging artist - but Deric has a good point when saying Earle is probably overlooked far too often when we're talking about great musicians and music that should be enjoyed and appreciated.

Many thanks to Deric for playing along, and for the advice... we'll try to do better next time.
