5 Makeup Brushes I Couldn't Live Without.
I may be a makeup hoarder, but the reality is, when it comes down to it there are only a couple of basics that I really need - the rest is just fun to play around with! One thing I seem to have a massive problem with collecting too much of is brushes, something about them just seems to call out to me. But by learning to invest in quality, rather than quantity, my makeup looks better and more flawless, and it even saves money in the long term.
Starting with my base, I find that foundation or any type of tinted moisturiser is best applied with a really dense brush, as they just seem to just buff everything seamlessly into the skin. 'Quality' to most may be paying more money, but after finding brush sets on eBay I've found that this doesn't necessarily always have to be the case. My buffing brush of choice, a rounded domed brush is a case in point, it cost me about a pound, yet is the one I choose over anything else. The quality of the bristles is on par with everything else that I have tried, dense enough, soft and doesn't shed or lose its color. I would definitely recommend 'investing' in a set like this. (For the review of the whole set click here). For smaller areas on my face, such as concealer, I really like using the Real Techniques Contour Brush. Unfortunately this is only available in their face set, the only gripe that I have with the company is that the best brushes are only available in the sets, but it fits into those hard to reach areas like under the eyes and around the nose like no other, helping to really buff everything in, so that it looks like 'skin'.
Next comes a brush that for ages I could never really get along with, the RT Blush Brush. To start with, I found it cumbersome and hard to manipulate to get the product to where I really wanted it to be, but over the time I have found that it is great to use with any powder products: blush, bronzer, powder - you name it - as long as you make sure not to overload the brush, and only use a light dusting where you want it, it works perfectly. This way, you get a fine wash of color that looks really natural, and blends effortlessly with the rest of your makeup. Finally onto eyes, and surprise, surprise, the RT brushes make a return. A combination of the flat shadow and domed blender make eyeshadow a breeze to apply and blend out easily, even for someone as rubbish at it as me, and you can't ask for much more than that. They may be a little more expensive than that of their eBay counterparts, but compared with the likes of MAC and Sigma brushes, which cost about 4x the price, you're still getting an amazing deal with these.
So that's it, the only five brushes that I really need. Although I won't deny that having a couple more isn't nice for when I am too lazy to wash them up.
What are your favorite brushes?
