Personal finance software and technology is becoming ever more popular. Understandably, there are some people who have an aversion to managing their money online, but there is a constant hunger for innovation among those who prefer online financial convenience.
Websites which specialize in particular aspects of personal finance are always worth keeping an eye out for. So, if I were looking to check my credit rating, Experian Credit Expert is well worth a visit. Meanwhile, anybody who is looking for a site which helps manage all aspects of personal finance will almost certainly quickly come across the award-winning Mint. However, there are plenty of other websites and apps out there which are worth checking out. Here’s a quick selection.
Money Dashboard
For an overview and accurate analysis of your bank accounts, Money Dashboard is the place for you. It is a no-frills website which simply eliminates the guesswork from your financial situation. Regardless of how many or what type of accounts you have, the Money Dashboard software collects all the information and clearly displays balances and transactions in simple to understand graphs and charts. However, the beauty of Money Dashboard is that it clearly breaks down your expenses so that you can see where you are spending, allowing you to budget more effectively.
Barclaycard App
Limited to Barclays customers, this great app is an excellent reason to start banking with them! It is both safe and convenient to download to iPhone and Android. Once it’s installed, you will be able to check your balance in real time and to see where and when you conducted your last thirty transactions. Importantly the app also allows you to see whether you are approaching your credit limit and perhaps most impressively of all you can also pay your bills from your phone.
Expense Manager App
Free for Android users, this is a simple bare bones app which will allow you to view a useful breakdown of your overall expenses at a glance. Expense Manager also allows you to view a quick history of expenses and to see how far away you are from your budget limit. There is a selection of additional features which require a small fee but are certainly worth investigating. They include a pie-chart distribution of expenses and an income management feature. In short, this is a straightforward and easy to use app which could make all the difference to your personal financial planning.
Mvelopes
Budgeting just got a whole lot easier. This excellent financial tool works on the old-school method of budgeting with envelopes. Decide the elements of your budget and each one will be assigned an envelope. Conceptually and visually, Mvelopes makes financial planning simpler. However, you should not underestimate its technical prowess with data pulled seamlessly from all your relevant financial institutions to give you an accurate overview of your finances.
Yodlee MoneyCenter
This is a must-use website for those who want a truly close and personalised analysis of their personal finances. If you are looking for something more than just an overview then this is it. Yodlee is the basis for sites such as Mint, so there is no doubting the quality. However, it is a chance to further tailor your financial information, with the ability to generate user-defined alerts and complex budgets.
