4 Tips for Skin Care After Laser Hair Removal

By Khadija Beauty @khadijabeauty3

Laser hair removal is one of the longest-lasting and most effective methods of hair removal. With this technique, you can remove unwanted hair from your underarms, bikini area, or face. But you need to take good care of your skin after the treatment for best results. Here are some tips for skin care after laser hair removal.

Avoiding Sweating and Wear Sunscreen

After a laser hair removal procedure, try to avoid anything that might make you sweat for at least the first 24 hours, such as working out. These strenuous activities can create more inflammation, and the sweat and friction could cause excess skin irritation, leading to rashes or blisters. Furthermore, your skin will be more sensitive than usual, so you’ll need to wear sunblock when you’re outside and exposed to the sun. If you use laser hair removal on your face, use a moisturizer with sunscreen in it daily.

Don’t Scratch or Exfoliate

Scratching can cause irritation, scarring, and infection. If you get any bumps or ingrown hairs after your procedure, try not to pick at them—this will only make them worse. Exfoliating also has similar risks: it can irritate your skin and cause micro-tears in the epidermis, the top layer of your skin, leading to scarring. Wait a minimum of three days before returning to your exfoliation routine. Plucking and waxing can irritate the skin, too, so don’t use these remedies to eliminate any stray hairs.

Avoid Hot Water

Another tip for skin care after laser hair removal is to avoid pools, hot water, and hot tubs for at least 48 hours after your laser hair removal treatment. The heat can cause irritation and burns and lead to infection or ingrown hairs. Alternatively, a cool shower or bath can help with any redness or swelling that may result from the procedure.

Use Good Skin-Care Products

Find skin-care products that work for your skin. You’ll want to find products that help your skin feel good and look great without causing irritation. You have several options, so be sure you know the benefits of certain skin-care ingredients.  You also want to be sure you’re using the products correctly and within the correct time frames so that they can be the most effective for your skin without causing any adverse reactions.

Treat Your Skin

You’ll want to avoid rubbing your skin during the first 48 hours and avoid using makeup, lotion, or deodorant for the first 24 hours. Keep the treated area clean and dry until the irritation has subsided.

Our skin is sensitive to many things, and it needs special care after laser hair removal. These tips will help you take good care of your skin so that it looks beautiful and healthy long after your procedure.
