  • Use hashtags
  • Tag your "subscriber" Circle on Google+
  • Customize the way you introduce your content

Do you know that two million blog articles are published every day? No wonder it is so hard to be found!

And yet, some people manage to remain above the fray. No matter what they post, traffic abounds.

So, how do they do it? Are they more talented than the rest of us? I think that the answer lies in the techniques they use to promote their content.

There are many ways to attract eyeballs to your articles. Here are four to get you started.

Create a daily digest

People love to be able to consume content the way they want. Daily digests, for example, allow them to access articles from one easy spot: their inbox.

I use Paper.li and Nourish, a free service that converts any RSS feed into an automated email newsletter. These are particularly useful because I write for several websites (this blog, Social Media Slant, and Examiner.com). The delivery is always seamless.

Use hashtags

Hashtags are everywhere now: on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, and even Pinterest. As such, it would be a pity not to use them!

Whenever you share your content on social networks, include at least one relevant hashtag. This will increase your chances of being seen by people looking for specific information.

Tag your “subscriber” Circle on Google+

I owe this tip to Mike Allton, a fantastic blogger and prominent social media consultant.

Create an empty Circle, then ask others if they would like to receive a notification whenever you publish new content from your blog. Here is an example:

subscribers circle

Add those who have responded favorably to the Circle, and you are good to go.

Every time you share a new article on Google+, include your subscriber circle and check the “Also send email to [Name of your Circle]” box. Your subscribers will receive an instant message in their Inbox — if they have set up the option in their notification settings.

Not sure how to do it? Read Mike’s excellent tutorial for more information.

I have said it many times, but it bears repeating: Each social network has a different audience.

Do not just drop links and leave. Give your audience a good reason to read you by presenting your content in a way that makes sense to them.
