Welcome to Day 5! Today and tomorrow I want to talk about adhesive options for your projects. There are so many that I've got to break it up! Glue/tape, etc. reacts differently to different kinds of stock and craft materials. This blog will explain what kinds of adhesive you should use and when.
1. Advanced Tape Glider I just discovered the ATG gun at the 2012 National Stationery Show... I'd been hearing about it, but because of my background working as a print production manager in the advertising world, I'd grown accustomed to the spray mount paste up artists used to make mockups (physical prototypes for clients to handle/evaluate).
Pros: Very clean application, strong adhesive, sturdy
Recommended for: Mounting a smaller stock panel to a larger stock panel
Cons: The tape is thin and can get off track easily, leading to re-loads
(check out the YouTube video on ATG loading and usage, its a great tool)
2. PVA Book Binding Glue
Book binding glue is the truth! It can be messy so you will need to go easy in terms of application. A little goes a long way.
Pros: Its strong and it won't let you down.
Recommended for: Assembling any kind of invitation pocket... Accucut users, take note.
Cons: Can be messy and you do need a certain skill level to use this adhesive neatly.
3. Spray Mount Glue
Spray mount glue is my favorite adhesive... You can cover a lot of ground with the spray and it is ideal if you have a ton to get accomplished.
Pros: Can cut your assembly time in half and the Super 77 is permanent and binding
Recommended for: Mounting and layering stock
Cons: You will need a LOT of newspaper or craft paper to place underneath your card stock. You will also have to continually refresh the sheets to ensure no glue residue makes it onto your work. Also, if you use too much, your piece may carry an odor from this particular spray
I'll conclude this discussion tomorrow... Hope you are enjoying the weekend!
