Forbes released its Celebrity 100 list today and to say that it was an interesting list would be an understatement. Queen Bey reigned supreme topping the list at # 1 with her $115 million in yearly earnings. She had no need to fear because her hubby, Jay-Z, was not too far behind ranking at #6 with his $60 million in earnings. PS- You go Blue Ivy, you go—your parents are awesome!
If a husband/wife duo making the top 10 was not attention grabbing enough, then these three things definitely are.
7 out of the top 10 are celebrities of color—last year there were only two!
Last year, Beyoncé and Oprah Winfrey were the only two that made the cut for the top 10. The list took a major turn this year with seven black celebrities making it to the top!#1 Beyoncé Knowles
#2 Lebron James
#3 Dr. Dre
#4 Oprah Winfrey
#6 Jay-Z
#7 Floyd Mayweather Jr.
#8 Rihanna
10 celebrities on the list are under the age of 27.
The young celebrity makes a major splash in the Celebrity 100 with stars such as Miley Cyrus (#17), Taylor Swift (#18), and Jennifer Lawrence (#12)—all of whom are under 25— landing in the top 20.
The top 40 includes 11 women—five of which are in the top 10!
The list includes 33 women in total, 10 of them are in the top 40, and five of them are in the top 10. It will be nice when the lists is completely equal, but for now we can appreciate the fact that we make up 50 percent of the top 10 with celebrities such as Beyoncé (#1), Oprah Winfrey (#4), Ellen DeGeneres (#5), Rihanna (#8), and Katy Perry (#9) finishing out on top!
Personally, one can only find this list to be encouraging. So many major glass ceilings were broken in the past year. Cheers to more progress in the future!
