Diwali is the festival of lights, lanterns, crackers and sweets. With oil lamps and fire crackers around every corner it is must that you ensure safety during this festival.

If safety is given priority you can include your children, even your toddler to be a part of all the deepavali preparations.

When everything is well and good, necessary safety precautions are taken, and the festive spirit is in its high it is time to make and distribute some sweets!! Yes every happy occasion should have sweets and desserts.

I learnt this recipe of coconut ladoo from my mother in law who frequently prepare this dish for bhog/ pooja. This coconut sweet recipe may be prepared during any festival for pooja/ prasad. This is a healthy, simple three-ingredient recipe.

Health benefits of coconut laddoos:

Narkeler naru is prepared using jaggery instead of sugar or sugar syrup and these are made using fresh grated coconut.

Serve the laddoos to your little ones for instant energy boost as they are far away from harmful effects of sugar. This sweet comes with all the health benefits and goodness of coconut and jaggery.

Coconut contains dietary fibers and thus improves digestion. Jaggery is good for health as it is an excellent source of iron and thus is beneficial for anemic. It also detoxifies the body. So, even your little ones can have this sweet without any restrictions and I am sure they are going to love this too.

These laddoos are good for babies one year and above. You can also learn how to make biscuits using coconut and whole wheat flour.

Continue stirring until the mixture turns sticky and gets binding consistency. It takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to get the stickiness in the mixture.

Now, turn off the flame and add cardamom powder to the mixture. Roll this into small laddoos shapes.

Although traditionally the laddoos are served plain without any further decoration, you may decorate the sweet with sliced pistachio and almond nuts.

Yummy coconut laddoos are ready.

Tips to decide when the laddoos are ready to be rolled- the tricky part solved:

When to turn off the flame or to decide when the laddoos are done is the only tricky part in this recipe.

Look for following two changes to decide whether the laddoos are ready to be rolled.

  • You may confirm its readiness when the coconut sticks to the spatula and do not fall when shaken
  • It also changes the color and turns brownish when done
