3 DIY Music Videos That Went Viral

Posted on the 12 October 2016 by Oh So Fresh! Music @OhSoFreshMusic
Shooting a music video is expensive” is usually what artists say when they think of making a visual interpretation of their song. Not having money is normally the biggest obstacle for emerging artists, however, that’s not the end of their promising career. What if we told you that you don’t have to be a millionaire to make the best music video for your song?

A very tight budget + some imagination + some great friends can make your talent shine and even land a major partnership deal with world famous artists. Sceptical?! Check out these stories. 1. Boyceavenue
Youtube legends with over 8.5 million subscribers started their career with some covers of popular, famous songs in their house, more specifically: Alejandro Luis Manzano just sat down in his room and recorded himself with a one-shot cut. It was the unique cover of Rihanna’s Umbrella that brought millions to follow his work. As he kept posting videos (beginning in 2007) a lot has changed in terms of casting and set up, but the style is the same - they’ve kept their signature over time. By keeping a signature picture to your music videos, it brands who you are as an artist and it makes your videos more well-known.
2. LIL JSEAN - Trust 'Em ft. Aesja
When it comes to DIY videos, these two know how to reach perfection. Siblings, who are into 90’s music, feel it in their bones. They directed the video, both creative and casting, they produced it, edited and styled it themselves. If you are wondering where they took the clothes - EBay & Etsy!  For putting their brilliant minds into action they needed only a friend to do the filming and Matthew Trombone succeeded. Lil JSean and Aesja even made the ABC blocks (a focal point in their video) themselves, keeping the uniqueness and style consistent. Breaking twitter views of the video to more than 3 million, they’ve conquered half million YouTube views. This wave landed them a feature with Kanye West’s artist rapper Cyhi The Prynce .

3.  Anna Kendrick’s Cups Cover The legendary cover of “You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone (Cup Song)”  by Anna Kendrick was all over the Internet and it was more than just a cover. All she needed were cups, a group of talented friends and a camera friend who was willing to contribute. The heroes of the video are Sam Tsui, Alex G, Kina Grannis, Kurt Schneider. As of today the video has been viewed over 6.7 million times let alone the number of subscribers and media coverage.
Remember, it’s not about the resources you have, it’s about the idea and passion and your dedication to turning it into a reality.
