Twitter went through another massive tragedy when its’ database was hacked by a group of professional hackers, compromising over 250,000 Twitter accounts, just recently.
“Our investigation has thus far indicated that the attackers may have had access to limited user information – usernames, email addresses, session tokens and encrypted/salted versions of passwords – for approximately 250,000 users.” Bob Lord, Director of Information Security stated in a blog post “This attack was not the work of amateurs, and we do not believe it was an isolated incident. The attackers were extremely sophisticated.”
As a pre-caution, Twitter has already reset passwords for these affected accounts to stop the attack from going any further. And the Twitter security team highly recommends all users to make this as an opportunity to change their password before something like this happens again.
So, how can you protect your account from getting hacked? It’s simple, just keep a very strong password. Consider making it at least 10-characters long mixing a symbol, a number and upper - lowercase letters to make your password stronger, something like this - $eCureD1 . Did you know that it normally takes about 463 years for a computer to hack a password like that.
