New Year’s Day: time to give those bellies the TLC they deserve after a long night of drinking! There are plenty of local restaurants serving up a delicious brunch (and of course a bunch of fun drinks too in case you didn’t get your fill)!
SOL Mexican Cocina (200 N. Columbine Street, Unit 110) is hosting brunch starting at 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The restaurant is open for brunch Saturdays and Sundays and offers Baja coastal Mexican favorites like Huevos Rancheros, Chilaquiles Verde, and a Crab & Shrimp Cake ‘Benedicto’ among others. The restaurant also serves signature brunch cocktails like their FroMo – Frozen Mimosa – and Chupacabra – smoky Vida Mezcal combined with our house bloody mary mix. SOL offers a kids menu for brunch, as well.
Postino WineCafé (2715 17th St.) has you covered as the wine-lover’s destination on New Year’s Day combines two of our favorite things: easy rustic Italian food and wine. In a brunch menu that’s cozy and casual, stop in as early as 9 a.m. and consider digging into the Ciabatta French Toast with housemade berry preserves, almonds and vanilla crème fraiche, delightful alongside a sparkling mimosa or white peach Bellini. Or, fire up your taste buds with the Country Toast with Italian ham, Gruyere cheese and sunny side eggs alongside a French press pot to ease you into the day. And, of course, bruschetta boards are available all day, and wines are $5 by the glass until 5 pm.
Count on the good stuff the morning after your late night bidding adieu to 2016 with a visit to Hopdoddy Burger Bar (1747 Wynkoop St.), where you can skip the stuffy fancy brunch crowd and instead grab a spot at the fun and funky burger joint on the Union Station Plaza. Opening at 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Hopdoddy’s all-natural and hand-ground beef, bison, chicken, turkey, lamb and ahi tuna (yes, ahi tuna) burgers are served alongside creamy hand churned shakes and creative cocktails to take the edge off the morning after.
Go gaga for the Roast Beast Burger on the first day of 2017, Hopdoddy’s seasonal special burger with green beans, Who Hash, a smoky sweet yam casserole and Akashi Kobe beef hand ground patty smothered in Hopdoddy’s steak sauce. Toast the new year with The Bubbly Blonde cocktail, a sparkly sipper for 2017 with house-Infused St. Germain along with lemons and orange topped off with fizzy bubbles.
Don’t brave a drive downtown the morning after New Year’s Eve; instead, slide into a cozy booth or banquette at Steuben’s Arvada (7355 Ralston Rd.) for New Year’s Day brunch. Starting at 9 a.m., brunch favorites like scratch biscuits and gravy, buttermilk fried chicken and waffles, and smothered breakfast burritos are on offer to satisfy your hunger or your hangover, alongside favorite brunch beverages like Steuben’s bacon bloody Marys, Irish coffee, and the corpse reviver II (if you’re feeling the need for something a little stronger). Brunch will be served until 3 p.m.The Palm (1672 Lawrence Street in the Westin Downtown Hotel) is celebrating New Year’s Day with brunch on Sunday, 1/1 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Brunch includes a high-end buffet with scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, hash browns, toast and jam, bagels and cream cheese, assorted muffins, and fresh fruit, among other items for $25. The restaurant will also offer drink specials.
The Palm is also hosting the Denver Football Bus for game-goers on New Year’s Day. Diners at The Palm can valet park for free at The Westin Downtown and game goers who already have tickets to the game can board the Denver Football Bus after brunch to get to the game in style. The Football Bus will leave The Palm at 1 p.m. Guests who ride the bus will be picked up at the stadium after the game and taken back to The Palm. If the food is good, the new year will be too. Del Frisco’s Grille (100 St. Paul St.) in Cherry Creek North they’re bringing in brunchers with the promise of an “anytime eats,” upscale, casual menu of brunch comfort food designed and built for sharing, indulging and enjoying. Craveable hand-held offerings like the Fried Egg Sammie with a duo of fried eggs, juicy house-made sausage, aged cheddar and a tart charred lemon hollandaise are on offer New Year’s Day, or go for the Scrambled Egg Tacos, with hickory-smoked bacon, aged cheddar, house roasted tomato salsa and a serrano honey salsa for balance.Southern Chef Dan Kane suggests you try the Southern Fried Chicken & Waffles, crispy, fluffy and served with spicy maple syrup and thick butcher cut bacon. New Year’s Day isn’t complete without a Bloody, and the Grille’s version is a knockout: the hangover-busting Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary arrives at your table with house-made Bloody Mary mix, Tito’s Vodka and a hefty plate of “fixin’s.” It’s available to sip or share by the glass for or in a carafe, as are all the Grille’s brunch cocktails. Del Frisco’s Grille will be serving brunch all weekend long.
Sugarmill (2461 Larimer Street), the cozy RiNo cafe, bistro and daytime hang-out spot is offering an understated and celebrated brunch menu for the first day of the new year. Our favorites on the menu include the Sugarmill Breakfast Burrito, stuffed with tender braised pork, scrambled eggs, crispy potatoes and chignon cheese and topped with tomatillo, crema and papilla salsa. The signature Pastrami Hash comes with a pile of house-cured pastrami alongside glossy tender duck fat potatoes and tangy mustard vinaigrette, topped with a pair of sunny side eggs; or go traditional with the Croque Madame on ciabatta with tender ham and tart swiss and a béchamel sauce. It’s topped with a sunny side egg and a side of local greens. Of course, Chef/Owner Ryan Witcher knows his way around the sweet tooth, so don’t miss the Brioche French Toast with a sweetly herbal strawberry-basil compote, candied almonds and marscapone crème. Grab a fistful of the housemade daily macarons as you head out the door; the sweet meringue-based confection comes in a variety of flavors (don’t miss the cheery pistachio).
Whether you’re hungover or just hungry, roll into Punch Bowl Social (65 Broadway) on the first day of 2017 to indulge in the popular Crispy Chicken Biscuit with bread and butter pickles, spicy honey and crisp potatoes. Get the year off to the right start with traditional good luck foods and share the Black Eyed Pea Hummus plate with your table. Luckily New Year’s Day 2017 is on a Sunday which means the award winning bloody mary bar is open with over-the-top fixings of veggies, cheeses and bacon. Ready to start your new year’s resolutions? Lighter options are always available, including the new menu favorite Superfood Grain Bowl with crispy farro, quinoa, kale, radishes, carrots, chiles, shiitake mushrooms, alfalfa sprouts, miso ginger vinaigrette and a poached egg. Pair any brunch item with a housemade juice such as The Ginger Rogers combining refreshing cucumbers, pears, lemons and ginger shrub. Take some time to belt out your favorite tunes in one of the private karaoke rooms or burn some calories bowling, playing pingpong, corn hole or skee-ball.
