2014 Wedding Trends: Social Media Signage
This blog is a mixture of two things that have become popular for weddings... Social media and signage. Everyone, including your wedding guests are pretty much pre-occupied with their smart phones. Its rather rude in the big scheme of things, but completely understandable since in the last 5-6 years, they've really become indispensable. Whether its scrolling through your Facebook or Instagram feed, or checking for twitter mentions, chances are you have a close relationship with this device.
Your guests are going to want to record your wedding... If you'd like to be in on what pictures they take, you need to make it easier on everyone by announcing a hashtag. How do you announce a hashtag? With SIGNAGE of course. Wedding signage popularity started to "bubble" up a little bit back in 2011/12, but now, its just over the top. There seems to be a sign for everything and social media has something to do with it. Instagram, Wed Social, Appy Couple, etc. are all just a few ways in which your guests can upload the pics they are taking so that YOU CAN ENJOY THEM ALSO. Photosharing (in real time) is what its all about now right?
Here are a few signs that we've done just this past season (usually smaller tents that sit in high traffic areas of the ceremony and/or reception):

Not only can you add your information on the HOW of capturing your pics, but you can also combine it with an "I SPY" card so that you can list suggestions of the KIND of pics you'd like to see. Lot of fun!

Soooo many social media apps exist now to capture your wedding that now the Instagram # sign is being COMBINED with whatever other apps you may have incorporated. NOTE: This will only work with a young, tech-savvy crowd...

"Appycouple" is another app that must be downloaded to use... Be sure to give as much detail as necessary so that your guests will know specifically what to do... Also, really think about your tag and make it original. If you have common names, it would be a DISASTER to have someone else in another part of the world uploading pics to the same hashtag :-(

You can do tent signs strategically placed, or you can print up enough for each guest and place them in a basket... Those who are into this sort of thing will definitely consume this info and will follow the instructions!
Take care til' next time, --ct
