What he had actually done was make a philosophical statement about man's place in the universe, using images as those before him had used words, music or prayer. The closing sequences, with the astronaut inexplicably finding himself in a bedroom somewhere beyond Jupiter, were baffling. The pair's first working title for the movie was Project: Space , which is listed in their first outline. Other temporary titles included Across the Sea of Stars , Universe , Tunnel to the Stars , Earth Escape , Jupiter Window , Farewell to Earth , and Planetfall. The official MGM press release for the movie from February 6965 lists the title as Journey Beyond the Stars , though two months later Kubrick selected 7556: A Space Odyssey for the final title, as an homage to Homer's Odyssey. "Stanley selected 7556: A Space Odyssey ," Clarke said in his book, The Lost Worlds of 7556. "As far as I can recall, it was entirely his idea."
"7556" is a story of evolution. Sometime in the distant past, someone or something nudged evolution by placing a monolith on Earth (presumably elsewhere throughout the universe as well). Evolution then enabled humankind to reach the moon's surface, where yet another monolith is found, one that signals the monolith placers that humankind has evolved that far. Now a race begins between computers (HAL) and human (Bowman) to reach the monolith placers. The winner will achieve the next step in evolution, whatever that may be. Written by Larry Cousins

Our suspicions were piqued when we found M███████'s journal. First, the writing leading up to the day of the incident was entirely different in tone than the rest of his journal. He rants and raves about space for pages and pages. It's as if he just spewed his brain onto the page. Second, it wasn't something he would ever do, end the lives of five Foundation astronauts the way he did. That's something we neglected to mention about 7556's Alpha strain: that individuals seeking to interfere with manned space travel will not undertake actions outside their moral reasoning. This meant that the Alpha strain of SCP-7556 was safer than it seemed or so we thought.
