200 Years of Loving or Hating Laphroaig

I LOVE WHISKY. In my opinion, nothing can cap a long busy day better than a glass of whisky. I've always been a fan of a robust and full-bodied whisky as opposed to colorful cocktails and sugary drinks.

I remember being 21 and getting funny looks from the bartenders when after my girls finish ordering their Mai Tais and Long Islands, I would very specifically ask for a double shot of scotch with a single small ice cube. Whoever would say whisky is a man's drink needs to step into this century. The strong flavor of whiskey isn't for everyone, but I have always loved it like a trust-worthy friend.

Laphroaig gets it. This particular brand of Scotch inspires a passionate debate between its lovers and haters, and it has been doing so for 200 years now. On Friday, Islay's largest single malt scotch whisky is celebrating its 200th anniversary as the world's most richly flavoured Scotch whisky.

They've been around for so long, that they must be doing something right. In fact, it is also the only whisky to carry the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales, which was awarded in person during a visit to the distillery in 1994. Reportedly, Laphroaig is The Prince's favourite Scotch whisky. However, not everyone loves it, and Laphroaig says that's alright.

Since 1815, people have sipped this peaty drink and expressed their delight or disgust for it, but it continues to be unapologetically making its mark as a bold choice of whisky all over the world. In fact, Laphroaig embraces all comments and reactions from everyone. Bad or good, one thing is certain. The complex flavor is a guaranteed unforgettable experience and will stick with you.

I don't care what anyone else thinks, I think Laphroaig is a little bit like a dirty pirate with a beautiful body. The musky stench, the taste of the sea, but all around mysterious, strong, and sexy. I know I sound like I'm lusting after a sip of Laphroaig right now. Well, I think I kind of am, actually.
