Another brilliant track from 1998, this one taken from Nottingham band Six By Seven's debut album 'The Things We Make'. 'Candlelight' reached number 70 in the UK singles charts.
Chris Olley remembers "This video was made in a basement in Spitalfields Market in East London and I still have no idea why. It could have been made anywhere for probably half the money, but then that wouldn't have been quite as trendy I suppose. It was also very clever because they put strobes all over it, which subsequently got it banned from MTV, the very channel they were making it for. Genius! MTV banned it because they said that when the strobes kicked in, people watching it would be freaking out and having fits. We pleaded with MTV and told them that this was precisely the sort of fan we were trying to appeal to but they were having none of it..."
As well as a new Six By Seven album due for next year, in 2019 there will also be a new reissue of 'The Things We Make', which will be available on limited edition Blue Vinyl for Record Store Day next year. The new album is being recorded at Rockfield Studios and will be entitled 'Das Ist England".
Olley said: "The music industry has changed so much but I love the way things have become more punk rock and artists can make the albums they want to. This has always been important to me. My life as an artist has always been about finding out what it was I wanted. Getting fans involved with helping to fund the albums with Kickstarters, MuZiK KluB releases and free t-shirts is a much better way of making a record. It’s harder now for the artist but it’s more exciting and feels more real."
