2 Cents from 2 Games at McKechnie

quickie visit...no pics...saw games on the 17th and 18th...Yankees and Red Sox. I have no detailed notes, and probably forget half of what I was going to write, but if you're interested then ask away..might jog my memory a bit.
First off...the "new" mckechnie is vastly improved. gone are the nasty old bucket seats...in are new concession areas, a deck around the outfield with tables, bars, LF bleachers...truly a nice place to be. If you're not planning a trip already, you should...it's a fun place to see a ballgame.
I know it was only two games, but...
As far as a few things that stuck out to me...Phil Irwin looked absolutely horrible against a Yankees team starting few regulars...couldn't find the zone, didn't have much life on anything, and looked just plain scared...I'm not impressed at all.
Oddly enough, Felix Pie (don't care about fancy pronounciations...he's still PIE to me) impressed. Took a lot of pitches, the guy's fast as he// on the basepaths, and the ball jumped off his bat. If it's up to me, this is a no-brainer between he and Pressley...though it might not be either.
Tabata...ehh...Snider...ehhh....neither looked overly impressive.
Marte looked horrible in his first two ab's against the Jankees...then looked better than average after that.
Martin...good throws from behind the plate, looked DOA in the batter's box.
Mercer gave a low-A 'ole' on a ball to short...couldn't believe he let it go through. The guy's supposed to be the SS-in-waiting...I don't see it.
Hawpe has no hop...horrible at the plate. Saw him doing extensive work at the infield practice field beyond the CF wall, but...
Inge had a few balls jumping off his bat, but were at'ems....not sold that he should stick around at all.
Gabby....this guy can really launch a ball! Read his quotes saying he didn't have his legs until late last year...if that's the case and he keeps up with the bat, I could be fine with him at first and Garret platooning in Right with an occasional start at first.
