2 Carrot Juice Recipes for Babies and Kids
As a kid, I loved homemade carrot juice! I wasn't one of those ideal kids who would eat everything that was offered.

I was the fussy when it came to eating anything. Well, not anything, only when the food in question was healthy. But she managed to give me carrot juice, by telling me that it is 'Suntop', a brand of packaged orange juice and luckily for her, I fell for it.

Carrots for kids? If you ask your pediatrician, he would suggest carrots in the list of first foods to offer to li'l one. While boiled and steamed veggies or veggy purees are more beneficial to your kiddo, a little juice occasionally isn't so bad either as it provides variety and kids love it!

When can I start giving my child juices?

The answer is 6 months; the reason behind this is that your little munchkin's nutritional needs are met by breast milk till 6 months.

Even after that, breast milk takes precedence over any other beverages and so intake of juices are to be limited.

Method
  1. Wash the carrots thoroughly.
  2. Peel them.
  3. Cut the carrot into small pieces. An inch or an inch and a half will do.
  4. Put the pieces into a blender, add a bit of water so that you can grind it well.
  5. Take the ground pulp and strain it through a sieve or a muslin cloth.
  6. Dilute the juice with water, especially if you are introducing it to their diet. The ratio should be 1 parts of juice to 3 parts of water. For older kids it can be equal amounts of juice and water.

Optional

Important points to consider
Add pureed raisins for added sweetness.
  • Use fresh carrots.
  • Wash the carrots well to cleanse off the grime and pesticides.
  • Make only what will be consumed immediately and avoid keeping the left-over juice for later.
  • Avoid adding sugar to juices as they can harm your li'l one's teeth.
  • Added sugar will also impede the ability of babies to savour and appreciate the taste of new foods, if you feel your baby doesn't like the taste of a food that was newly introduced, wait for a few days and try feeding it again.
  • If you are using a juice extractor, you do not have to cut the carrot into small pieces.
  • Ensure that the blender and all the utensils used for making the juice have been cleaned properly.
  • I haven't mentioned the exact amount of water to be added as the amount of juice will differ. Use the ratio 1:3.
