Don’t look now, but fall is right around the corner.
Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. You see, I believe summer is only good for two things: sweat and weeds. If it were up to me, summer would only last one week–long enough for my family to go on a beach vacation. After that, let’s get on with fall.
For me, fall is football, pumpkin patches, crisp mornings, and grilling out with a cold beer. It’s the absolute perfect time of year. And, oh yeah, in my opinion fall is the best time of year for reading.
So with that said, here are 17 amazing things about reading in the fall.
- Less sunlight means more time to read by the fire.
- Less sunlight means your kids go to bed a little earlier, which means more reading time!
- Monday Night Football is the perfect background noise while breaking open a good novel.
- Pumpkin-spiced scented novels will soon be a thing–if they aren’t already.
- October is National Arts and Humanities month, if you need more proof that fall is the best.
- You can actually read outside without losing 3 pounds from sweating.
- “August” is Latin for “Oh God make it end” (not really), and who can read during a month like that?
- All those colorful leaves are, like, really colorful and, like, make you want to read or something.
- All the television shows start back up, and most readers like us will pick one or two to watch and spend the rest of our time reading.
- Election season is underway in the fall! Hooray! All the more reason to turn off the TV, at least Fox News and CNN, and open up a novel.
- F. Scott Fitzgerald was born in September, so there you go.
- Fitzgerald. Football. Fall. They all start with “F.” Woah, that’s freaky.
- School’s back is session, so guess what? Your kids have to read too!
- Fall represents change, and what’s better than turning the last page of a novel and starting a new one?
- Genesis 74:57 says, “When God created the third season, he began reading a Charles Dickens novel.” I clearly made that up.
- Pool parties are stupid, and they take away perfectly good reading time. Nobody has pool parties after Labor Day.
- Your grass is going dormant, thank God. Throw a blanket on it, grab a beer, and read a good novel.
I could go on and on and on and on and on about my love for fall. It’s the absolute best season and, in my humble opinion, it pairs perfectly with a good book.
So let’s begin saying our farewells to summer, because fall can’t get here soon enough. Go grab a pumpkin beer and a good book!
