On 2nd September 2013, Microsoft announced that it would acquire Nokia’s mobile device business and everybody assumed it was a strategic move by Microsoft to jumpstart their slow-growing Windows Phone Market. Pending Approval the acquisition was closed by early 2014 and since then we have waited for the launch of the Microsoft branded Lumia devices. Microsoft will launching their first Lumia devices in coming weeks.
Five months after the acquisition, Nokia finally announced Nokia Devices & Services business will become part of Microsoft. And Lumia; the Smartphone brand will join the Microsoft family. Two months later, and now Microsoft is finally planning to launch their first Lumia smartphone. The unveiling will be done on November 11th 2014, which is being teased with a title
‘Microsoft is delivering the power of everyday mobile technology to everyone’.
This day will be the first time Microsoft will drop the Nokia name from Lumia smartphone and hopefully a new aggressive era of Lumia smartphones will emerge. Don’t worry Nokia won’t be gone forever, Nokia will still exist. Microsoft has plans to sell entry-level category phones under the Nokia Brand. But anything above the entry-level which starts the smartphone range will be under the new Microsoft Lumia branch.
As per recent rumors, Microsoft’s first Lumia device will not be their Lumia flagship but a budget Lumia handset targeted for mass-adoption for low-end device masses. As per the teased image, it seems the orange tone-Lumia phone will have a front-facing camera and that’s about it.
