100 Days of Active, Week 1 {March 5 – March 11}

By Erynecarter06

Well, Week 1 is complete. Would I consider it a success? Not entirely. At least, not for me.

What I would consider a success if the amazing group that wanted to join in the fun. And the Facebook group that was formed because of it. It’s a place to support, encourage, and rant. But more importantly to connect and know you are not the only one alone on this journey.

On to my first week.

100 days of active week 1

March 5th

Gym with my friend/personal trainer. She kicks my butt every single time we meet up. I’m back working out with her 2-3 times per week, so I know I’ll get a good workout on those days.

March 6th

And here is when the 100 straight days goes to hell. I was exhausted. I felt like crap. And I just wanted to go to bed. I knew I had a busy day on Saturday, plus plenty of things to do that night to get ready for a bridal shower. I planned to get up and walk. But I ended up sleeping. I planned to walk on my lunch. That didn’t happen. I planned to walk in place when I got home that night. Yep, that didn’t happen either.

Day 2 was a huge failure.

I did do a lot of moving around at work. Which I guess I will count.

March 7th

No typical exercise here, but I had a bridal shower to go too. And we had to be there by 9:45 to decorate. It was lots of running to the cars, running around the venue, and squats. Not your typical exercise, but still moving.

March 8th

Does anyone else get super effected by daylight savings? Because I do. My body hates it.

Moving on. It was looking to be a nice day, so the other half and I took off to the Wrentham Outlets for the morning. If you’ve never been there, it’s a ton of walking. So that was my active.

March 9th

Gym with Tracy. Another killer workout. Not too mention how nice it was to see the sun set so much later.

March 10th

I was just exhausted all day. I had planned to go to the gym after work, but made the decision to go home and try to kick whatever was going on. I did do a lot of moving at work, plus I came home and did some walking in place while watching TV. Not great, but something.

March 11th

Final day of week 1. And it finally reached 50 degrees. I met Tracy for an outdoor workout so we could take advantage of the beautiful weather. We walked the rail trail from my work to the water. Then we stopped did planks, pushups, lunges, dips, and so on at the top. I was dying, but it just felt so good to be outside. Then we walked back. About 2.5 mile walk, plus all the other exercise. I was beat.

Weekly Weigh In

I hate putting this out there. But I know if I don’t, I won’t stay accountable.

3/5/15: 209.4

3/11/15: 209.4

No change this week. No big deal though. I’d rather see the number stay the same than go up. I’m also not focusing on the number. Yes, I need the scale to go down, but I also know that when I start a new routine, sometimes it takes my body a couple of weeks to catch up. When we did Insanity, I didn’t see a drop in my weight until week 2.

But what I am finding, I already feel stronger. I started doing weights with Tracy at 5lbs. I’m now doing 10lbs. I can do more push-ups everytime we meet. I can plank for longer. And I’ve noticed my thighs shrinking. I’m starting to build muscle back up.

Final Thoughts

I won’t lie. This challenge is extremely hard for me. I’m not used to moving every day. Which is obviously the point of this. In the past, if I missed a day, I would be very hard on myself. But now, even though the point of this is 100 straight days if I’m not as active as I want to be for one day, I don’t focus on it. I move on, and know that I’ll add another day on towards the end.

The whole point is to find a routine and stick to it. And as the weather gets nicer, I’ll be more active every day.

So yes, I’m failing at my own challenge. But I’m finding a new sense of respect for myself and a new enjoyment for being active. And that’s the point right?
