As we know COVID-19 virus is transmitted through direct contact with respiratory droplets of an infected person, through coughing and sneezing and touching the surfaces contaminated with the virus. This virus may survive on surfaces for a few hours up to several days. The good news is that maintaining proper hygiene, disinfecting home especially you have toddlers and aged people in your home.

Listed are some tips to follow to make home free from this virus.

1. PERSONAL  HYGIENE

Simple hygiene measures can help protect your family’s health. Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose, and mouth. Cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or tissue when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of the tissue or wash the handkerchief and wash your hands with soap after sneezing.

2. KEEP YOUR HANDS CLEAN

As you will be preparing food and will be taking care of your family, wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. It contains Alcohol which can catch fire easily. Be cautious while using hand sanitizer. 

3. CLEANING YOUR HOME

Cleaning and disinfecting high- touch surfaces of your home regularly is an important precaution to lower the risk of infection. Clean common high touch surfaces like doors, handles, windows, tables, toys, etc. Use disinfectant containing 70% of alcohol to clean your entire home.


4. DISINFECT FREQUENT USED PRODUCTS

Mobiles, remotes, keys, computer, laptops like gadgets should be sanitized in a regular interval as they are the common things which are used frequently on a daily basis.

5. DOING LAUNDRY OR CLEANING CLOTHES

It is currently unclear how long the virus can survive on fabric, but cleaning clothes is mandatory. Make sections of a laundry bag. In one section separately keep clothes of kids and aged members, keep bed linens, pillow,  cushion covers in others and keep the clothes of those who have to go outside the house in another section. Wash everything separately,  don’t mix them. If you want to give your clothes to laundry or dry cleaners, ensure that they use proper sanitization.

6. PETS CARE

If you have pets in your home, special care should be taken. Clean them regularly, don’t take them outside the house. Give proper medication and their regular vaccines. Don’t abandon them, as the virus doesn’t spread through them. Play and spend time with your pets to keep your mind tension free.

7. HANDLING AND PREPARING FOOD

  • If you have shopped from outside remove any unnecessary packaging and dispose of a waste bin.
  • Remove food from taking out containers and dispose of the container. 
  • Wash fruits, vegetables thoroughly under running water. 
  • Eat properly cooked, boiled food. Clean your hands while cooking and eating. 
  • Always use clean utensils while eating. 

8. PRACTICING  GOOD HABITS

  • To wear masks and gloves when stepping out of the home.
  • Tell everyone to remove shoes when entering the home.
  • Ask them to have a shower with soap if they are coming from outside.
  • To avoid unnecessary touching things.
  • To wash clothes if you came from outside.
  • Keep your home well ventilated for better airflow and sun exposure.

  • Avoid unnecessary going out of the home.
  • Maintain social distancing while out of your home.

10. KEEP YOUR BODY HYDRATED AND BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

  • Drink an adequate amount of water to keep the body hydrated, flush out toxins of your body, drink herbal tea infused of ginger, clove, cardamom, Cinnamon, honey, lemon.
  • Eat proteins and Citrus fruits to boost your immune system.
  • Eat eggs regularly or drink milk with turmeric powder for better immune power.
  • Have one spoon of Chawanprash daily, as it is full of immunity-boosting properties.
